Thanks, Llewellyn, for this great piece. I wonder if Hans Rosling made a mistake or Western media is behind the spreading of this false information. If you've been following their news, especially when referring to African countries, they usually say people live with less than $1/per day.

The breaking news about the continent right now is the coup d'état in Niger. Do you know that the West African country is referred to as the "poorest" country in the world? But come to think of it, how can a country with the following natural resources be called a poor country?

About Niger's natural resources: Uranium, coal, iron ore, tin, phosphates, gold, petroleum. Agriculture products: Millet, sorghum, rice, corn, fruits, vegetables, cotton, peanuts, cassava, cowpeas.

Moreover, this is a country that supplies France, its colonial metropolis with uranium to feed the French nuclear plants. France exports electricity to some major countries in Europe and make billions of dollars. According to 2022 data, the countries include: Italy, Swaziland, Spain, United Kingdom, and Western Europe. You tell me how and why is that country forced to be and remain poor? Thank you for enlightening the world about the fake information regarding food insecurity and pointing to Africa as the main receptor.
